Expected Outcomes:

1.    Promotion of solar thermal energy

For the purpose of outdoor swimming pool heating in the participating municipal estates as well as for hotels and other private ownersbest practises, new available technologies, components and case studies will be presented. This aims at an increased implementation of new projects for the exchange or upgrading of existing heating systems with solar thermal systems.

To support the initiation of solar energy projects in participating outdoor pools within the project duration the project partners will provide feasibility studies, free of charge, for these pools.

2.    Baseline study on state-of-the-art, demand and potential

Solar thermal applications for the heating of outdoor swimming pools are quite new and not widespread in all European Member States. Some countries play a major role as precursors (e.g. Germany, Austria and Greece) while others are at the beginning of the use of solar energy. Thus a first analysis of the state of the art in the participating countries and a collection of boundary conditions and requirements for a good promotion of solar applications for outdoor pool heating will be performed.

3.    Development of a guideline for local authorities

Other decision makers involved in the planning and operation of outdoor swimming pools to support and improve the decision making process on solar heating. A special tool - the “Impact Advisor” - will be developed within the project, which will provide support to any decision maker in the pre-planning phase of a project. E.g. feasibility criteria, economic potentials, environmental impact, estimated costs, estimated payback period will be provided.

4.    Raising the awareness and increasing the information of the general public

This will be realised through information panels, which will be placed at exemplary, participating outdoor pools. This panel will present important information on the installed solar system and in particular economical and environmental impact like energy and operation cost reduction or payback periods of the investment. Furthermore information on existing special financing schemes and grant programmes for the implementation of solar energy at private houses (if applicable) will be displayed.

5.    Motivating owners and operators to use solar swimming pool heating

An information campaign for owner and operators will be developed and executed with regard to the results of the basline study performed in every participating country. The campaign will be tailored for the owner and operator groups in terms of content, form and scheduling.

Information material will be developed and distributes and a series of workshops will be organised in each participating country.

6.    Motivating installers to develop the solar market

For this purpose a special campaign for installers will be developed and implemented. This will describe the potential market, components, concepts, potential energy savings, existing grant programmes and financing schemes, etc.

Information material will be developed and distributed and a series of workshops will be organised in each participating country.
